The Mathematics Premajor Requirements

Mathematics Pre-Major Requirements
  • Calculus I (MATH 141), Calculus II (MATH 142), and Vector Calculus (MATH 241) each with a grade of C or better (in at most two attempts).
  • Algorithmic Design I (CSCE 145).
  • One of the following sequences:
    • Probability (STAT 511 )=(MATH 511) and Mathematical Statistics (STAT 512)
    • Either Statistics for Engineers (STAT 509) or Statistical Methods I (STAT 515 )and either Statistical Methods II (STAT 516) or Algorithmic Design II (CSCE 146).

  • These courses fulfill the Group II requirements listed in the General Education Requirements.
  • Students who receive a C or lower in any of MATH 141,142, 241, or in their first 500-level MATH course are encouraged to take Transition to Advanced Mathematics (MATH 300) prior to taking additional core mathematics courses.
  • All majors are encouraged to take the 1-hour seminar course, Introduction to Careers and Research in the Mathematical Sciences (MATH 198), as early as possible.
